Poker Camps are nothing new. Several Online Poker Sites and many Poker Pro’s are involved in helping new and old Poker Players alike to raise the level of their tournament play. While they have been doing this, a small fact seems to have been ignored, you need CASH to enter a tournament and that is usually earned the old fashioned way, grinding it out on the felt.
Anyone who plays a significant amount of poker knows that tournament play and cash play are two different animals. Well that problem is about to get solved as the WSOP Academy is introducing their Cash Game Academy in 2009.
The WSOP Cash Game Academy is going about doing it the right way. From WSOP Poker Hats, WSOP Poker Videos, WSOP Bracelets and WSOP Cards they will have it all. They are not using second rate journeymen to teach these classes, they are going for the giants in the game. Names like Annie Duke, Phil Hellmuth, Greg Raymer and Joe Hachem will be amongst the instructors. You will also be privy of the knowledge of Cash Game Monsters like Mark Seif and Paul Wasicka. Wecan only hope that these classes are successful and the likes of Sammy Farha and Kid Poker begin taking part.
Brandon Rose, Vice President of Post Oak Productions who handles the WSOP Academy Operations, stated that he was worried that the image of the WSOP would not be readily associated with the cash game market. However, he also thought that the market was too big to ignore and lucky for all of us, he moved forward with this venture.
The first of two academies will take place on January 24th and 25th at Harrah’s in Atlantic City. Mark Seif, Paul Wasicka and Alex Outhred will be among the leading instructors. The next session will be held in the beginning of February in Las Vegas at Caesars Palace.
Each session will consist of both lectures and simulated live cash play. The conclusion of each academy will be a cash game competition where the attendees will fight it out for the right to earn a spot in Las Vegas for the WSOP Academy Tournament of Champions.
The cost of the academy is $1,899. While the price may initially sound a little steep, the money that can be saved by applying the techniques should return your investment in no time at all. For their money, the players will be able to see and discuss actual situations and have them broken down as they occur. This is much better than any book as you are going to be able to get deep inside the heads of the pro’s and truly understand why they do what they do.
All in all, the WSOP Cash Game Academy will be a WSOP Main Event and welcome addition to the wonderful world of Poker Schools. In actuality, this may actually be the best of any of them as the bulk of the coverage players see on television is tournament related. Most of those techniques will get you buried in a real life cash game and players need to understand that. These academies will go a long way to educated players in how to properly play when the chips actually represent a real amount versus a "represented dollar amount".
